Sisters Observe Golden Wedding Same Day.
In a double wedding ceremony on Aug. 27, 1895, Miss Elva Gartin became the bride of Charles La Follette, while her sister, Miss Emma Gartin, was married to Elmer Deakins at the home of the brides' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gartin of Gower. both couples are lifelong residents of Buchanan County. Today they are celebrating their golden anniversaries together in the La Follette home in Gower amidst relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Deakens are now residents of Agency.
Mr. and Mrs. La Follette are the parents of a son, Elmer La Follette of Hiawatha, and a daughter Mrs. Neil Smally of Seneca, Kan. they have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One grandson, Sergt. Sheldon La Follette, is in East India.
Mr. and Mrs. Deakins have two daughters, Mrs. Clifton Miles of Gower and Mrs. Ralph McCray of Agency. They have five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two grandsons, are Srgt. Forest Holt, who has just returned from two years overseas, and Corp. Vernon Holt, who is in the Philippines, are in the army.
Mr. Deakins is 69 and Mrs. Deakins is 68 years old.
