Mary L. Compton Stewart Hogg was born in Nov. 1849 in Montgomery, Alabama. Mary had a twin brother, Calvin F. Compton. She was the daughter of Robert S. Compton and Rebecca G. McCain Compton who had nine children, all born in Alabama. In 1875, Mary came to live in Washington County Texas with her father, Robert S. Compton, her sister, Alice, and two brothers, Henry Clay and George William, and her little five year old son, John C. Stewart. Mary Compton Stewart was a widow. In 1887, Mary married John Bridges Hogg and they had one child, Robert B. Hogg. Mary was stepmother to the older Hogg children. Mary lived in Corsicana, Navarro County, TX and Hill County, TX. (The whereabouts of her son, John C. Stewart b.1875 in AL, remains unknown.) Mary's year of birth on her D.C. and headstone marker differes from census records, which lists 1849.
