Charlie never married, he was a kind and good natured man, a barber and a musician. He always was there and ready to help if anyone was sick and in need. He died of double pneumonia. His barber shop was next door to brother Will's store and across from the railroad depot building in Claremont. {Margia Hoke Fisher, 1987}

THE CATAWBA SOLDIER, page 378-379, The Spanish-American War: "When war was declared against the Kingdom of Spain, and the President called for Volunteers, Catawba County immediately responded; and Colonel Armfield says that she furnished more soldiers than any County in the State save one." Charlie enlisted 27 April 1898, and was assigned to Company M, 1st Regiment North Carolina Volunteers.
