Laura was born in Clinton County, New York, and moved to Nebraska in the late 1870's, and when her mother died in 1881, her sister Martha was appointed her guardian. She lived with her and was a dressmaker. When her sister died in June 1885, Phillip Funk became her guardian. She was married in 1887 to Axel J. Chindgren (?-Aug 1930), who was born in Sweden. A son, Chauncey, was born to the couple on the 21st of August 1888. When she died in 1889, her husband could not take care of the baby, and Chauncey went to live with his uncle, Oliver Gordon, who adopted him. No death notice was found for Laura, but the custodian at the Minden Cemetery, said she could be buried beside her Mother, Father and sister, Martha, as there was another unmarked grave there.
