Herman Schwindt dies April 16
Herman William Schwindt, 84, LaCrosse, KS, died Sunday April 16, 2000, at Rush Co. Nursing Home, LaCrosse.
He was born October 31, 1915, on a farm northwest of LaCrosse, the son of Conrad and Katie (Bott) Schwindt.
On May 7, 1939, he married Nellie May Collins at Charles and Bertha Collins' home northwest of Nekoma.
A lifetime resident of Rush Co., He was a farmer and stockman. As a young man, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Herman later served as a member of the Larned Federal Land Bank board, the Rush Co. Soil Conservation District board, and as a trustee of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in LaCrosse. He also served as a 4-H leader. Herman enjoyed his family, his friendships, flying his plane, traveling, building, and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie of LaCrosse; one son, Gail of Timken; three daughters, Patricia Kay Schwindt, Mesa, Arizona; Diane Joy Hays, Roseville, California and Pamela Sue Pierce, Leesburg, Georgia; three sisters, Sarah Sucht, Larned; Esther Phillips, Nekoma and Clara Scott, Guymon, Oklahoma; a brother, Clarence of Mesa, Arizona; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Bertha Collins of LaCrosse; a brother, Harry, of Great Bend; a nephew and a niece.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 19 at the First United Methodist Church, LaCrosse with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be at LaCrosse City Cemetery.
Memorials have been suggested to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the First United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Janousek Funeral Home, LaCrosse.
