Conrad Schwindt Injured in Storm

With a broken leg, severe chest injuries and cuts on his body, Conrad Schwindt who lives northwest of LaCrosse considers himself lucky to be alive today. Mr Schwindt is a patient at the Hadley Memorial Hospital in Hays where he was taken following a tornado which tore the roof off the house, blew over the garage and other small buildings, totally demolished the barn, which was filled with feed, and lifted the wooden windmill out of the ground, demolishing it when it hit the ground. Three large trees were pulled up by the roots. A few small buildings remained undamaged by the stormy wind.

Late Saturday night, Mr. Schwindt seeing the storm approaching, left the house to close the garage doors. The storm struck before he could return to the house and the garage was demolished. In the mele, Mr. Schwindt suffered the injuries which took him to the hospital. The roof was blown from the Schwindt farm home and Mrs. Schwindt says she owes her life to the fact she clung to one of the walls of the house.

Mr. Schwindt's condition is said to be satisfactory.
