Herbert Austin Sheldon, 71 , of 234 Battle Creek Avenue, a retired painter and decorator, died at 12:10 a.m. today at his home after a five-month illness. A painter here for almost 50 years, he stopped work because of his health about two years ago. Mr. Sheldon had his own business in later years. He worked as a painter at the Sanitarium as a young man and later was associated with Thaldorf Wall Paper & Paints
He was born Sept. 17, 1879, in Marshall, son of Franklin and Lovisa (Rossiter) Sheldon. On March 21, 1906, he married Mabel Gott of Charlotte in Marshall. Mrs. Sheldon died July 22, 1934. Survivors are three sons, Clarence of Spokane, Wash., Donald of 171 West Goguac, and Harold of 36 West Grand Circle; one daughter, Mrs. Emerson (Ethel) Doud of 23 Penn; Four grandchildren; three step - grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Cronk of 1955 Northeast Capital Avenue, Mrs. Gertrude Campbell of Hammond, Ind., Mrs. Nellie Turner of 254 Grove and Mrs. Mildred Pooley of 286 East Avenue North.
