William was a farmer and loved children.


William Addison "Will" Davis died peacefully in his home in Bickmore on Wednesday, March 16 in Clay County at the age of 92.


Will is survived by his wife of 67 years, Isabella Eunice (nee Rhodes) at home; and son's, Howard (Cody), Paul (Katherine) of Clay County, Luther (Thelma) of Cabbell County, Meade (Gracie), Burton (Florence) of Kanawha County, Lloyd (Lula) of Jacksonville, Florida; daughters, Ethel Hedrick (Gilbert) of Poe Run Community, Alma Hart of Wood County; brothers Benjamin, and John (Maggie), sisters Ruth and Rachel; many grand children, great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Carl, Paul; daughters, Nina and, Alice; his brothers, Harry, Conrad, James, Jesse and Henry; and a sister Mary.


Will was born on Sunday, January 25, 1874 in Brookville, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania to Rev. Thomas and Alice (nee Adams) Davis. In 1877, he and his family removed to Clay County, West Virginia by way of a houseboat down the Ohio River and up the Great Kanawha and Elk Rivers where brother Benjamin was born along the way. His father purchased a farm there just West of Blue Knob Creek. William was the oldest of eleven children, he continued farming even after he married his sweetheart, Isabelle on Wednesday, May 17, 1899 at the home of her father Melzah Rhodes by the Pastor William Gibbs.


After purchasing their farm at Big Beechy Ridge at Elkhurst, many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have enjoyed playing on the farm there. Will set aside part of this land as a final resting place of his parents, family members and now he will be interned there on the knoll over looking their farm on Saturday, March 19th.


His description given on his World War I, registration card dated 12 Sep 1918 stated that Will was of Medium Height, Medium Build, Color of Eyes: Blue, Color of Hair: Bald, Brown. Age: 44; Occupation: Farmer; Nearest Relative: Isibell Davis; Address: Elkhurst, Clay, WVa.
