John Franklin Davis, 88, of Clay, Clay County, died Sunday at his home after a long illness. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and a member of Blue Knob United Methodist Church.

Surviving: wife, Maggie B.; sons, Herbert E. of Walton, Lloyd C. and Ralph E., both of Maysel, Cecil M. of Clendenin, Clarence A. of Charleston, Neldon of Clarkson, N.Y, Burley R. of Canton, Ohio, Odbert N. of Parkersburg and Lawrence A. of Quick; daughters, Mrs. Addie L. Bragg and Mrs. Alice Pearl Davis, both of Maysel and Mrs. Othel D. Burdette of Precious; 41 grandchildren; 34 great- grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Blue Knob United Methodist Church, Maysel, with the Rev. M. B. "Bus" Melton officiating. Burial will be in Blue Knob Cemetery. The body is at Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Arthritic Research Foundation.
