Caroline's father, Harry Campbell was born Feb 15, 1805 in Washington, Orange County, VT;
died Aug 12, 1887, Grayson County, TX.
His father was Jesse Campbell;
mother, Sarah Jones.
Caroline married John B. Blundell.
Her father harry married Sarah Jane, daughter of Moses Darling of Vermont ca 1829
Their children were:
William (1830),
John (1833),
Caroline (1836),
Mary (1840),
George (1843).
He resided in Elmont, NY; Jay County, IN, where he had a tavern and store; and Elmont "Crossroads." TX. Travelers told exciting stories about the frontier and free land to be had in Texas, so the Campbells started for Cedar Springs, their wagons loaded with merchandise.
They traveled down the Preston Road. Arriving at "Cross," Harry decided here along White's Creek was the ideal place for him. In the fall of 1845 he camped, living in the wagons until he could clear land and build.
He homesteaded 640 acres on White's Creek, Grayson County. His family built a and operated the first tavern and general store in the Crossroads area in 1847 until the turn of the century.
Campbell changed the name of his settlement to Elmont, since he had many fond memories of Elmont, NY. Elmont Baptist Church was established in 1869 and built on
former Campbell property.
Sarah Jane Campbell died July 31, 1887, and Harry died Aug. 12, 1887. Harry, Sarah and family members are buried in Wiley (on private property) near Collinsville, Grayson County.
The 1852 marriage of Caroline Campbell and John Blundell united two pioneer families.
