Frank was married first to Bertha Sattlemeyer. The marriage license was taken out April, 1904 in Quincy, Adams, Illinois USA. They divorced 26 Mar 1909 in Quincy, Adams, Illinois USA.

Frank remarried to Nina M. Ramsey 05 Aug 1909, St. Louis, MO. USA. They surprised everyone by stealing away from a wedding party of another family member while in St. Louis and "going to the parsonage of one of the Methodist churches here (and were) made man and wife themselves."

They adopted a child they named Ruth Marie Schaffner (b. 4 Jan 1912) on 16 May 1912 in the County of Adams, Illinois. Ruth Marie went on to marry Robert Allen Baker. At least one known child came from this marriage.
In the 1920 U S Census they are living in Quincy Ward 6, Adams, Illinois with their daughter Ruth.

1930 U S Census: Frank is remarried to Avis M.age 40y, b. abt 1890 in Illinois. They are living at Quincy, Adams, Illinois and have a 5y old son, Richard G. (see fag#19331830).

The 1930 U S Census also shows: Nina M. Schaffner, divorced, age 39y b. about 1891 in Missouri living in Quincy, Adams, Illinois with the Henry C. and Helen A. Sprick family. Her relationship to head of household is "Servant".

Frank moved to Arizona where he worked as a painter. In the 1940 U S Census he is living with his wife Avis and son Richard in Supervisorial District 1, Pima, AZ.

His son, Richard signed his death certificate. Cause of death "Carcinoma of the lungs ..sick 3 years."
