Pearl Kathrine Slaven Thompson [1914-2000] - 85, who was referred to as "Nannie" by her grandchildren and friends, passed away on Saturday afternoon, April 29, 2000 at Scott County Hospital after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late William and Martha Slaven and was also preceded in death by her husband, Odie Thompson; three sisters, Nora Slaven, Pernia Hill, and Cora Sexton; and three brothers, Arvelee, Arthur, and Athal Slaven. She was a member of Winfield Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Vida Neal of Oneida; five grandchildren, Kathy Rose, Mark Rose, and Ronald Neal of Oneida, Michelle Neal Conlon and husband Tim of South Bend, Ind., and Michael Neal of Roan Mountain; seven great-grandchildren, Kasie Caldwell and husband Mark, Nichole Thompson and husband Aaron, Lisa Gilbert and husband Vance, Hillary Marcum, Kesse West and husband Brandon, Holly Rose, and Marca Rose; six great-great-grandchildren, Cody, Kelsie, Dusty, Shelby, Chance, and Deven; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Monday, May 1, at 8 p.m. at West-Murley Funeral hOme, with Rev. Lawrence [Bobby] Hill officiating. Burial was in the Marcum Cemetery in Oneida.
