Nora S. Slaven, 94, died March 30, 1999, at the Scott County Hospital in Oneida. Born in Scott County, July 29, 1904, she was the daughter of the late William and Martha Slaven. In addition to her parents, she was preceded also in death by her husband, John Curl Slaven; three brothers, Arthur, Arvil Lee and Anthal Slaven; two sisters, Cora Sexton, and Pernie Hill; one step-daughter, Ellen Lay; and one step-son, Warren Slaven. She was a member of Pentecost Baptist Church for many years. She is survived by one sister, Pearl Thompson; one step-daughter, Vilda Sexton; several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted April 1, 1999, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Rev. James Laxton and Rev. Dean Barnes officiating. Music was provided by the Duncan Family. Interment will be held in the West Cemetery. West-Murley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (Source: The Independent Herald, 4/8/1999)
