Arthur Hollis Slaven,
89, died March 18, 1999, at the Scott County Hospital in Oneida. Born in Scott County, November 21, 1909, he was the son of the late William and Martha Slaven. In addition to his parents, he was preceded also in death by his wife, Hazel Slaven; two sisters, Cora Sexton, and Pernia Hill; and one brother, Arvil Lee Slaven. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and was retired from the railroad. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of American Legion Post #136 of Oneida, a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Clerks, and a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Norwood, Ky. He is survived by one daughter, Deloris Muller; one grandson, Greg Muller; two sisters, Nora Slaven and Pearl Thompson; special friends, Charlie and Sandy Jeffers; several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted March 21, 1999, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Rev. Philip Kazee officiating. Interment followed in Phillips-Long Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post #136. West-Murley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
