Matthias 2nd was the ninth child and fifth son of Matthias Harshman 1 and Mary (Smith) Harshman. Matthias 1st is not on find a grave at this time but the immigrant Andrew Harshman , is the grandfather of Matthias 2nd . Matthias 2nd lived a few years on a farm he bought at Southington then later moved to Parkman in Geauga Co. buying a 102 acre farm on which he lived until his death. He was a carpenter, wagon-maker and cabinet-maker. He also operated a sawmill on the Grand River and had extensive stone quarries. He and his wife quarried blue limestone by building fires on ledges, to heat the rock, and then pouring on water to crack it. On March 26, 1824, Matthias married Phebe Deneen. Shortly after Matthias's death in 1876 Phebe moved to Tennessee to live with her daughter Cynthia O. (Harshman) Marshall . She is buried in Wilkes Cemetery in Culleoka, Maury Country, Tennessee.
