Daniel was born doubtless on the old Harshman homestead near Hagerstown Maryland, which had been deeded to Matthias in 1782 by his father, the immigrant Andrew. Daniel was first married, apparently about 1805 in Washington County, Pennsylvania, to Magdalene Moninger, born 1787. Daniel and Magdalene lived for many years in South Strabane Township of Washington County. Later they moved into the new town of Washington, Pa., and occupied a log house on East Pine Alley near Lincoln Street. Magdalene died July 11, 1848. She was buried in the Lutheran Cemetery at Glyde Pa,. but the grave cannot now be located. She was the mother of all of Daniel's children. Daniel's second marriage was in Lordstown, Ohio, on Aug. 23, 1849, to Mrs. Rebecca (Dillon) Kline, a widow. It is not known just when Daniel went to Indiana, but he spent his last years there.
