OBITUARY from page 12 citing the Savannah Democrat (newspaper):
Mrs. Susan Chronister Dies - Spent Her Life Here.

Mrs. Susan Chronister, aged 81 years, 3 months and 2 days, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cecil Pennington, in St. Joseph at 6:25 p.m., Thursday, April 13, 1939. She was the daughter of James J. and Rebecca Adams Garner, who settled in the western part of this county in 1838. She was born on the original homestead of her parents, January 11, 1858, and has lived all of her life in Andrew County. On July 20, 1879, she was married to Romanius Chronister, who preceded her in death January 14, 1915, and to this union were born three sons and one daughter who survive her. They are Lawrence H., Charles A., James C., and Mrs. Cecil Pennington. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. James J. Jefferies, of North Kansas City, and quite a number of more distant relatives.

In 1912, the family retired from farming and moved to Savannah, buying a home on Williams Street, where she continued to live until her death. Mrs. Chronister became ill at her home about three weeks ago. The daughter took her to her home in St. Joseph, where Mrs. Chronister, after all that loving care and medical aid could do, continued to grow weaker, until the end came. She was a wonderful mother and a faithful Christian. Her life will be an example of love and patience always. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Frist Christian Church by Rev. G.D. Noland. Burial was in the Savannah Cemetery (in the Dray plot, Sec 8.).
