JAMES JASPER GARNER Jr.
On November the 16, 1844 James Jasper made his appearance in this world upon his father's farm at Hackenbottom, Andrew County, Missouri. He was the son of James and Lucinda Adams Garner and one of 12 children born into this large family. His grandparents were old Fouchee Garner (born in Va. 1780) and Mary Knott Garner (born in Va. 1784) and Pleasant & Ruth Sutherland Adams.

In 1847 his mother passed away leaving behind a husband and eight children. The following year, on July 22 his father married Rebecca Adams, Johnson, English, his mother's younger sister. Rebecca, his step-mother had first married a Dr. Johnson and to this union one son was born, James. Secondly she married a Mr. English and to this union three children were born, Sarah Jane English in 1841, Charles Archabald in 1844 and Lucinda born in 1846, so into this marriage Rebecca brought with her these four children and in the years that followed, four more children were born to James sr.

In 1833 his grandparents broke up housekeeping, his grandmother finding old Foushee so disagreeable that she could no longer live with him. Mary Knott Garner lived with her son, Neri and old Foushee, in the year 1850 settled in with James and Rebecca and their large family.

James grew to manhood on his father's farm until March 31, 1862 when at the age of 17 he enlisted in the Fifth Regiment of Cavalry of the Missouri State Militia Volunteers to fight in the Civil War. His military records list him as being 19, though he was only 17 at the time. He was disabled by Erysipelas in the feet and legs contracted near Independence, Mo. and was mustered out of the service with the rest of the company at St. Joseph on June 22, 1863.

His military records show him as standing 5 10 tall, having a light complexion, hazel eyes and being a farmer.

On Dec. 9, 1867 James and Sarah M. Noris were married at Amazonia, Missouri by Squire Scudder. The following year they moved to Richardson County, Neb. where on Dec. 29, 1968 their first child, Laura Belle was born.

On Jan. 27, 1971, their second child, Sarah Frances was born, followed by the birth of James Robert on Oct. 6, 1872 and Daniel N. Garner on Aug. 28, 1974. The last child born to them in Neb. was Nora on April 11, 1877. Nora died the next year.

James and Sarah moved to Andrew County during the early part of 1978. On June 6, their baby, Nora, now 14 mos. old died and was buried at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. On December 8, of that same year James 25 year old wife, Sara died also. She too is buried at Mt. Carmel.

On Oct. 4, 1881 James married secondly Mary Ann Bridges at Savannah, Missouri. She had first been married to a man by the name of Abraham Hardin and after his death she married George Hackenbottom who was with Co. C 44th military Inf. At the time that she married her third husband, Mr. Sipes, she had no knowledge of the whereabouts of Hackenbottom. Mr. Sipes died soon after the marriage. James was her 4th husband.

To this union between James and Mary six children were born and they were as follows;
