Great Bend -- Irene Rose Schmitt, 76, died Jan. 27, 2000, at her home.

She was born March 11, 1923, at Liebenthal, the daughter of Andrew and Josephine Depperschmidt Herrman.

A Great Bend resident since 1940, moving from Oakley, she was a homemaker. She belonged to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend.

On June 7, 1943, she married Victor Schmitt at Oakley. He died Oct. 24, 1988.

Survivors include: a son, Nickolas J., Great Bend; three daughters, Virginia "Sue" Stroud, Shirley Harris and Betty Bender, all of Great Bend; two brothers, Elmer and Gilbert Herrman, both of Liebenthal; five sisters, Cleo Leiker, Virginia Andrasek and Theresa Lewis, all of Great Bend, Mary Leiker, Munjor, and Dorothy Davenport, La Crosse; nine grandchildren; a step-grandson; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Bryant-Christians Chapel, Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Charles Mazouch presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.
