b. Feb. 9, 1840
d. December 1, 1919
Death certificate #15-01745 in box D2071 shows:
Henry Neimyer
birth: February 9, 1840 in Ohio
death: December 1, 1919 in Cass County, Ohio
Mother's maiden name: Ortt
From the Atlantic News-Telegraph, December 2, 1919
"Henry Neimeyer who came to Atlantic with his parents just fifty years ago and who for years was engaged in business as a livestock dealer, died last night at 11 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Otto E. Sanders, 509 Elm street. He was 79 years of age.
Death came as the result of cancer from which Mr. Neimeyer had been a sufferer for some time. He was compelled to take to his bed a week ago.
Mr. Neimeyer was a native of Butler county, Ohio. He was born Feb. 9, 1840. When his parents, Jacob Neimeyer and wife, came to Atlantic in 1869 the son accompanied them. This had been his home continuously since that time. . ."
Notes: The notice of death from the newspaper indicates Henry's mother accompanied the family to Iowa in 1869. The source for much of the information on his parents appears to have been from a bio contained in a published History of Cass County, Iowa (which contained alot of errors). The WPA reading of the cemetery also contains many known errors. Looking beyond the easily obtainable secondary records and researching primary records, all evidence points to Henry's mother having died in Butler County, Ohio in 1860, therefore she could NOT have accompanied his father and other family members to Iowa in 1869. Also, the newspaper account of Henry's death said he was born in 1840, while the inscription on his headstone indicates 1839. Lastly, the death date inscribed on the headstone (November 19, 1919) does not correspond with the date of death inferred in the notice of death published in the newspaper (December 1, 1919).
