Hattie's parents were Jacob NEIMEYER and Sarah OTT (ART/ORTT) NEIMEYER. She spent her younger years in Butler County, Ohio. It was there, when Hattie was just 3 years old, that her mother, Sarah died. Hattie's oldest sister, Mariah/Maria, married Robert Major in 1869. Hattie moved with this young couple to Madison County, Alabama. By 1880, Hattie, her sister Mariah/Maria, and brother-in-law Robert joined Hattie and Mariah/Maria's father and most of Hattie and Mariah/Maria's other siblings in Cass County, Iowa. Hattie appears to have resided with her older sister Mariah until Mariah's death in 1883 and later that year married William Norton HATHAWAY in Cass County, Iowa.

After William and Hattie married, they appear to have lived at various times in Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska, before finally settling in Denver, Colorado. William died there in 1908. William and Hattie NEIMEYER HATHAWAY had the following known children:

1) Maria, b. ca. 1885, Kansas (not surprising that Hattie named a daughter after her sister)
2) Henrietta, b. ca. 1888 Colorado or Nebraska
3) Stephen, b. ca. 1891 Colorado
4) Sarah, b. ca. 1893 Colorado
5) Robert, b. ca. 1895 Kansas

Hattie was enumerated in the following U.S. censuses: 1850 and 1860 Censuses in Butler County, OH - St. Clair twp; 1870 Census in Madison County, AL - township no. 3, range no. 1 west; 1880 Census in Cass County, IA - City of Atlantic. 1910-1930 Censuses in Denver County, living in the city of Denver. In addition, Hattie was enumerated in the 1895 Kansas State census in Pottawatomie County.
