Thus far, I have not found any documents indicating the name of Jacob's parents. However, FindAGrave member #47442760 has requested a link to Conrad Neumeyer as the father of Jacob. Additional sources would be most welcome.

From Atlantic Daily Telegraph (Cass County, Iowa), August 20, 1884

"The news that 'Old Mr. Neimeyer is dead' was passed from house to house about the city this morning. He died at half past ten o'clock last evening, after a painful illness of some months.

The deceased was born in Lehigh county, Pennsylvania, October 12, 1812, and in early life served an apprentiship of three months in a gunsmith's shop, at which trade he worked the greater part of his life. He was a man of very inventive turn of mind and had invented and patented numerous ingenious and useful articles. . ."

According to several sources, Jacob Neimeyer married Sarah OTT (possibly ART or ORTT) in Pennsylvania and moved to Butler County, Ohio before 1836. Jacob and Sarah Neimeyer had the following known children:
1) Lydia, b. 1836 (married Jacob Antrim), d. 1909
2) John, b. 1838, d. 1928
3) Henry, b. 1840 (incorrectly shows 1839 on his stone), d. 1919
4) Mariah/Maria, b. 1841 (married Robert Major), d. 1883
5) Amanda, (never married) b. 1844, d. 1926
6) Asa C., b. 1846, d. between 1913-1916 was last found living in Adams County, Nebraska in 1913.
7) Elizabeth, b. 1848, d. 1852
8) Andrew Johnson (A.J.), b. 1852, d. 1936
9) Charles, b. 1854, d. 1932
10) Harriett (Hattie), b. 1857(married William N. Hathaway), d. 1939
11) Sarah (Sallie), (never married) b. 1859, d. 1899

Jacob is shown in the following census records:
1840 - 1860 U.S. Censuses, Butler County, Ohio
1870 & 1880 U.S. Censuses, Cass County, Iowa
Note: It appears Jacob may have retained a home in Butler County, Ohio, for a short time and may have been enumerated there in addition to being enumerated in Cass County, Iowa in the 1870 Census.

Jacob's wife Sarah, died in 1860 and is buried in the Hickory Flat Cemetery in Butler County, Ohio, along with two of their children - John and Elizabeth. Jacob and many of his other children eventually moved to Cass County, Iowa, with most arriving before 1870. At least five of Jacob and Sarah's children are also buried in Atlantic cemetery - Lydia, Henry, Mariah/Maria, Amanda, and Sarah/Sallie. All except Lydia are buried in the Neimeyer plot.

The burial locations for all of Jacob and Sarah's children have been located and links to their memorials are in the children section below.

Note: Several researchers (including the WPA workers back in the 1930's) made the assumption that the Sarah/Sallie Neimeyer death information that is inscribed on the side of Jacob's headstone is that of his wife. This is incorrect...that was his daughter.
