Frank Bates, 96, of near Summerfield, died at 9 P.M. Thursday at the home of a son, Harley Bates, Quaker City R.D. 2.
He was born May 15, 1879 in Noble County, a son of Simeon and Mary Kirkbride Bates. He was a member of Bates Hill Church of Christ.
His wife Frances Mae Graham Bates, died in 1918.
In addition to his son, he leaves three daughters, Mrs. Mary Clark of Summerfield R.D. 1, Mrs. Iva Frame of Quaker City R.D. 2, and Mrs. Ellen Rossiter, Quaker City R.D.1; one other son, Durward Bates, New Concord R.D. 1; one brother, Harley Bates of Mt. Ephriam; 11 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. One son Hayes Bates died recently.
Services were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday in Bates Hill Church with Evang. McKinley Bates officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
