MRS. ANNA HESS , 63, well known resident of Davenport and wife of Michael Hess, died today at Mercy hospital after an illness of the last six months. The family home is at 1421 West Eighth street. The decedent was born July 28, 1867, in Muscatine, Ia. She was formerly Miss Anna Kasper. On May 8, 1888, she married Michael Hess in St. Joseph's church of Davenport, the late Msgr. Nierman performing the ceremony. Mrs. Hess had been a resident of Davenport for the last 44 years and during that time attracted a large circle of friends who will be grieved to hear of her death. She was an exceptionally charitable woman and had been an active worker in the interests of St. Vincent's orphanage for many years. She was also active in St. Mary's church. Mrs. Hess was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Surviving besides her husband are three daughters, Clara, Lillian and Anna Hess, all at home; five sisters, Mrs. George Meier and Mrs. Kate Schoo, both of Davenport, Mrs. Arthur Bishop and Miss Nettie Kasper, both of Muscatine, and Mrs. Charles Harper of Bayfield, Ia., and two brothers, Frank and Joseph Kasper, both of Muscatine. The body was taken to the Halligan funeral home and was returned to the late home, 1421 West Eighth street, Davenport. Funeral services will be held Thursday at St. Mary's church. Interment will be made in Holy Family cemetery.
