Services Friday for Mrs. Max DuBois
Mrs. Max DuBois, 77, of Independence, former Winthrop resident, died at 9 a.m., Wednesday, March 11, at the People's Memorial hospital in Independence. Mrs. DuBois suffered a heart attack in Texas, where she and her husband were spending the winter near McAllen. She was hospitalized there for six weeks and was returned home Sunday by private plane.
She was born July 8, 1892, on a farm near Central City, the daughter of William H. and Anna Kearns Bateman. She received her education in the schools there and was graduated from a business college in Cedar Rapids.
On March 15, 1916, she was married to Max DuBois at Central City. They farmed south of Winthrop until 1946, when they moved to Independence where they have since resided with the exception of winters spent near McAllen, Texas.
Mrs. DuBois was a member of Declaration Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and a past matron. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian church and the church guild.
She is survived by her husband, a twin sister, Mrs. Lloyd (Floy) Smith of Central City, and a brother, Glenn Bateman of Winthrop and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 13, at 1:30 p.m. in White Funeral Home Chapel in Independence with Rev. George Bishop, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church officiating. Casket bearers, Henry Bateman, Virgil Bateman, Marvin Bateman, Jim Bateman all of Winthrop, Fritz Bateman and Donald Bateman of Marion.
Interment will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Independence.
