Mary Belle (called Mabel) was born in Iowa in 1893. She was adopted by Charles and Julia Howe as a young girl. Her parents had three children born to them: Vera Belle; Alvin (died as a baby); and David Charles. Her first marriage was to Lonnie E. Walker. Her second marriage was to Silas Adelbert Fanning with whom she had three daughters: Margaret (born 1914); Dorothy (born 1919); and Kathleen (born 1922). Sadly, Silas died in 1922. Mabel Fanning died in Salem, Oregon in 1980.
