Tattnall Woman Killed By Tree Fall Tuesday
Mrs. Olifay Mock.65,of Glennville, died last Tuesday night en route from Reidsville to a Savannah hospital following injuries she received when a decayed tree fell on her.
Mrs. Mock reportedly was accompanying her husband across a field to feed their hogs when a rotten oak branch fell from a tree, striking her.
She was a native of Long County.
Surviving are her husband, Benson Mock of Glennville; a daughter, Mrs. Jane Johnston of Ludowici; two sons, Edsel and Van Mock, both of Savannah; her step-mother, Mrs. Pearl Bacon of Savannah; three sisters, Mrs. Donna Kate Brannen, Mrs. Dorothy Durrence, and Mrs. Claudine Bland, all of Glennville; two brothers, W.A. Bacon and Paul Bacon, both of Glennville; three half sisters, Mrs. Francis Buoy of Savannah, Mrs. Willene Brewton of Bradenton, Fla., and Mrs. Johnnie Lou Mitchell of Cordele; two half brothers, Hollis and Bennie Bacon, both of Savannah and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Beard's Creek Primitive Baptist Church conducted by Rev. O.L. Ferris and Elder J.W. Durrence. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were nephews, Derrel Bland, Freddie Mock, Ronnie Durrence, Norman Mock, Kerry Bacon and Henry Mock.
Honorary pallbearers were Harold Burkhalter, Marcus Nobles, Jr., Ira DeLoach, W.A. Blocker, Marcus Nobles, Sr., Charles G. Swindell and Cecil Nobles, James G. Blocker.
Rimes Mortuary of Glennville was in charge.
