"W. A." Willie A. Bacon, 82, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, Georgia.

The lifelong native of Tattnall County was retired from Civil Service at Ft. Stewart, Georgia.

He was a World War II Army veteran, receiving the Silver and Bronze Star and the Oak Leaf Cluster; and a member of VFW Post #8379 and American Legion #95. He was a member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian A. Bacon of Glennville, Georgia; sons and daughters-in-law: Edward and Kathy Bacon, Kerry and Linda Bacon, and Kevin and Loretta Bacon, all of Glennville; five sisters: Dorothy Durrence and Claudine Bland, both of Glennville, and Willene Brewton, Frances Bouy, and Johna Lou Mitchell; one brother, Billy Bacon of Savannah; special friend Furmon Oxidine of Glennville; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Scott Williams officiating.

Burial was in Beards Creek Church Cemetery, with military graveside honors.

Pallbearers were Derrell Bland, Brad Bacon, Willie Bland, Dale Salter, Jeremy Bacon, and Clint Dasher.

Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Willie Allen Bacon Jr. and Vivian Allen met shortly after he returned home from WWII. The couple married soon after they were introduced to each other by their mutual friend, Dwight Kicklighter. They enjoyed over fifty years of marriage until W.A.'s death in 2002.
