Lurana Courtney parents were John Riley Courtney 1835 – 1891 and Catherine Ann Klepper 1826 – 1920. Her siblings were: Elizabeth Bettie Courtney 1856; Nancy Courtney 1858; Sarah Courtney 1860; William J. Coatney 1861, he married Nannie A Courtney; Cornelius "Neal" McClainen Courtney 1864 – 1934, he married Addie Jane Harris; Susanett Coatney 1868; Peter "Pete" R. Courtney 1870 – 1955, he married Eliza Ella Mc Bride.

On Dec. 4, 1873, Lurana became the bride of Irvine Fain Russell from this marriage nine known children entered the world. They were: Robert Nathaniel Russell 1874 – 1941, he married Katie Leannah Courtney; Arminda Russell 1875 – 1961, she married James Draper; Dollie Russell 1877; Matilda "Tilda" F. Russell 1880 – 1961, she married Marian Cobb; Lucy May Russell 1882 – 1912, John Taylor; William Russell 1884; Vinie Russell 1886 – 1930, George M Freeman; Alma Russell 1892; and Bertha Russell 1894.

1n 1880, they Lurana and Irvine were living in a house next door to her parents and working as a farm hand. She had already given birth to their first four children.

In 1900, they were still living in the same house, but by now her father was dead, and they owned the farm and houses, Her mother was still living next door.

Seven years later, on June 9, 1907 Lurana passed away. She had lived on the same farm all of her life. The only thing that changed was that the Saint Clair post office had closed and now her mailing address was Bulls Gap.
A couple of days later, her Mother, siblings, Irvine and her dear children and gathered at the Courtney Cemetery to bid farewell to their beloved daughter, sistee, wife, mother and neighbor. (bio by Audrey DeCamp Hoffman)
