Catherine Ann Klepper parents were Peter Henry Klepper 1796 – 1876 and Mary Katherine Myers 1792 – 1855. Her siblings were: Nancy Mallory 1811 – 1864; Barnabus M. Klepper 1813 – 1885; Mary Polly Klepper 1816 – 1899; William Klepper 1819 – 1894; Nancy Klepper 1822; Elizabeth (Betty) Klepper 1824; Nancy Angelene Klepper 1824; Eliza Jane Klepper 1825 – 1889; Lurana (Loureen) Klepper 1830 – 1896; John M. Klepper 1832 – 1914;Margaret (Peggy) Klepper 1835 – 1913; Joseph Klepper 1841 – 1875; Cornelius Klepper 1843 – 1863. Catherine Ann's father remarried after her mother died and she had 13 half sisters and brothers.

She married John Riley Courtney 1835 – 1891 in Rogersville, Hawkins Co. on March 9 1854. Catherine ( some time spelled with a K ) presented him with 9 children in 15 years: They were: Lurana Courtney 1855 – 1907; Elizabeth "Bettie" Courtney 1856 – 1943; Nancy Courtney 1858; Sarah Courtney 1860, William Jesse Courtney 1861 –1910; Cornelius "Neal" McClainen Courtney 1864 – 1934; Carrie N Courtney 1866; Susanett Courtney 1868; Peter "Pete" R. Courtney 1870 – 1955.

In the 1860 census they lived and farmed in Rural Rogersville, where their estate was valued at $400.00. Catherine had presented John with 3 Children. Her sister , Elizabeth Klepper, was living with them.

The 1870 census found them living in District 3, White Co, Tennessee, with the nearest P.O. was Cave. John was farming an estate that was values at $300.00. . Her sister, Elizabeth Klepper, was still living with them.

By the 1880 census they were living back in the rural Saint Clair area of Hawkins Co. Their son William was assisting on the farm and presumably 14 year old John and 9 year old Pete were busy with chores.

March 8, 1891 her beloved husband,. John Riley passed away. A few days later Catherine gathered her children and friends around his grave site, to bid him farewell as they laid him rest in the Courtney Cemetery.

The 1900 census found Catharine living in Labette Co., Kansas with her daughter Carrie and her husband John W Mckiernan.

On Jan. 9, 1920 when the census was enumerated, Catherine was 91 years old, and back living in the Saint Clair area of Hawkins Co., with her son Peter.

Almost 2 months later on, Feb. 24, God called Catherine Home. Her death certificate signed by Dr. B.F. Horner, stated she had died from Nephritis, a kidney ailment, that she had suffered for 5 years, and the second reason for her demise was Age. Her body was taken to A. J. Steward funeral home to be prepared for burial. Again her children and friends gathered at the Courtney Cemetery to lay their Precious Mother to rest beside their Beloved Father.
