In 1870 the family was living in, what seems like a rather affluent farming community in, district 3 in White Co. Tennessee. Cave was the nearest post office. It is now listed as a historical and the building seems to no longer exist. At the time Billy was 8 years old he had several playmates living near by Floyd Gist a 7 year old son of John and Martha Gist and the two sons of John and Mary Price, Davy 11 and Jimmie 7 lived on the near farms and of course there was his little brother six year old Neely.
July 19, 1887 William Jessie Courtney and Nannie A Johnson were wed. It appears that there were no children from this union.
