Maxie Lee Burrell

Maxie Lee Burrell, well known resident of Durant, died Tuesday, March 12 at Delta Medical Center in Greenville. Mr. Burrell, 60, was on a fishing trip at Lake Washington when he became ill.

A native of Attala County, he was born on April 25, 1924 at Sallis. His parents were the late Oliver Calhoun Burrell and Mrs. Ada Lula McGriff Burrell. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Durant, a retired farmer and a veteran of World War II.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Durant. Officiating ministers were the Rev. Steve Delony and the Rev. Ron Hudson.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margaret Ann Kern Burrell of Durant; two daughters, Miss Barbara Burrell and Miss Nancy Burrell, both of Durant; one son, Lee Burrell of Durant: six sisters, Mrs. Clydie Dickerson, Mrs. Clara Myers and Mrs. Katherine Hague, all of Durant, Mrs. Doris Ables of Ethel, Mrs. Bess Stauch of Mt. Vernon. Ohio, Mrs. Bobbye Mullen of Possumneck: three brothers, James Burrell and Frank Burrell, both of Durant, and Trent Burrell of Canton.

Burial was in Sallis Cemetery with Southern Funeral Home of Durant in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers were Glenn Dickerson, Kenneth Dickerson, Charles Myers, Jim Bob Mullen, Luther Burrell, Wayne Burrell, Doug Burrell, Richard Burrell, Bill Burrell and Sammy Burrell. Honorary pallbearers were members of Berean Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Durant.
