While visiting a friend in Arcadia, Sadie met John. Two years later they were married. J.C. farmed a few years then went to work for Louisiana Highway Department. Sadie devoted her time to raising her family. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was a good seamstress and sewed for people. She also liked to cook and baked pies for people. She had a great love for her church and was always ready to help any way she could.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sadie Shaffer Chandler, 74, of Gibsland were at Gibsland First United Pentecostal Church.  Burial was in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.  Mrs. Chandler passed away May 29, 1988 at Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport LA.  She was a homemaker and a member of Gibsland First United Pentecostal Church. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Patsy R. Stricklin of Taylor, Mrs. Peggy Hughes of Taylor, and Mrs. Rebecca Cullins of Gibsland; two sons, Donald T. Chandler of Homer and Larry D. Chandler of Quitman; four sisters, Mrs. Truma Sanders of Shreveport, Mrs. Velma Blackwell of Dubach, Mrs. Mac Pace of Calhoun, and Mrs. Cecil Kilpatrick of Arcadia; three brothers, Paul Shaffer of Minden, Jesse Shaffer of Springhill, and Johnny Wilson Shaffer of Cayce, SC; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
