Article from The Bienville Democrat November 27, 1980:
John Chandler, age 26 of Box 178 Gibsland was killed Friday in a one-car accident on I-20 near Minden. The accident occurred about 5:00 a.m. when the automobile left the road and traveled over 300 feet before jumping a creek and hitting an embankment. Chandler was alone in the car and the wreckage was discovered by a passing motorist and reported about 8:00 a.m. According to Webster Parish Coroner Sidney Pittman, Chandler was killed instantly. An autopsy is pending.

John R. Chandler, age 26 of 127 South Gibbs Street, Gibsland, died Friday, November 21 in a automobile on I-20 near Minden. Funeral services were held November 23 at the First United Pentecostal Church of Gibsland with Rev. C.D. Bates officiating and Rev. H.B. Ward assisting. Interment was in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery under the direction of Congers Funeral Home of Arcadia.

Mr. Chandler was a parts man and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his father, J.C. Chandler of Arcadia; his mother, Mrs. Sadie S. Chandler of Gibsland; one daughter, Jenny Amelia Chandler of Sylacaugla, Alabama; three sisters, Mrs. Patsy Strickllin, Mrs. Peggy Hughes, and Mrs. Rebecca Cullin, all of Taylor; and two brothers, Donald T. Chandler of Homer and Larry D. Chandler of Jonesboro.
