He was born on April 12, 1879 in Fielding, Utah, a son of Thomas Fredrick and Mary Alice Spackman Coombs. He was raised and educated in Fielding, Utah and was a graduate of Box Elder High School.
He married Alice Millard on June 8, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on February 4, 1940.
He was a Ward Teacher for many years in Fielding and was Precinct Chairman of the Democrat Party for 15 years and also a Veteran of World War I.
Surviving are his widow, Fielding, Utah; two sons: Richard M Coombs, Deweyville, Utah; Douglas E Coombs, Garland, Utah; six grandchildren; four brothers and two sisters: Fred Coombs, Lester Coombs, Ervin Coombs, all of Fielding, Utah; Dean Coombs, Garland, Utah; Mrs Jay N (Nellie) Fife, Salines, California; and Mrs Glen (Alice) Ward, Riverside, Utah.
Burial was held in the Fielding City Cemetery, Fielding, Utah.
