The Elkhart Truth - 10 April 1997: Services for Walter L. Schieber, 79, of 309 E. Waterford St., will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Wakarusa United Methodist Church. Mr. Schieber died at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday in Elkhart General Hospital, where he had been a patient since March. He had been transferred to Elkhart General following emergency heart surgery performed Feb. 8 at St. Joseph Medical Center. Born Jan. 10, 1918, in Nappanee, he was the son of Lawrence and Nellie Doering Schieber. On Sept. 21, 1942, he was married to June Metzler, who survives. Mr. Schieber, a cabinet maker and finish man, had done residential construction for George B. Moyer & Son Construction and Schultz Realty. He was a member of Wakarusa United Methodist Church and belonged to Goshen Moose Lodge No. 836. Also surviving are one son, Allen Schieber, Logansport; two sister, Marie and Fern Schieber, both of Nappanee; one brother, Dean Schieber, Wakarusa; and two granddaughters, Melissa Schieber, Indianapolis, and Amy Schieber, Logansport. Two brothers. Devon and Paul Schieber, preceded in death. Officiating at the services will be the Rev. Edward Geleske. Burial will be in Olive West Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at Wakarusa United Methodist Church.
