Willard was drown while crossing an Illinois river and apparently his body was never found.

Married # 1 Sarah W. Hockenberry on 26 April 1849 in Stark County, Illinois

Alice Lavina married John Lee Hand

After Sarah's death when his children were very young, he married Mary Caroline Berrian.

They had two sons: Walter and James Lucius Edwin. When Lucius was 6 months old he was drown while crossing a river on his horse.

With so many young children Mary Caroline had to relenquish the two by his first marriage. Flora went to live with her uncle, Daniel Clark, in the Council Bluff, Iowa area. Alice was eventually adopted by a minister and his wife, going to Kansas until her marriage and ending up in California.
