Son of Eli K. and Eunice (Brown) Clark

Married Mary Jane Gallaher/Galiher on 12 February 1867 in Turnersville, Pennsylvania. Married by W. D. Gregory, Justice of the Peace.

Served in the Civil War. Mustered in at Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio in Company B of the 23rd Ohio Infantry.
This regiment turned out to be a very famous regiment with such members as Will Rosecrans, who became late one of the leading northern Generals. Rutherford B. Hays, William McKinley and Garfield, all later U. S. Prsidents were at one time or another members of this "elite" regiment.

Saw heavy action at the Battle of South Mountain where they were attached to the IX Corp. It was at the Battle of Antietem that Arista suffered a wound, but apparently not serious enough to remove him from later active duty, as he was transferred to the 1st U. S. Cavalry, where he remained until he was mustered out on 19 July 1865 at Cumberland, Maryland.

He was 6 feet 1 inches tall, light complexion, with dark hair and blue eyes.

His account of wound" Gun shot wound in my hips. The bullet striking my left hip, passing through and coming out my left hip making a wound about 14 inches long."
