OBIT from Sheboygan Press Sat. Feb 28, 1970: "Nic Winkel, 86, veteran clerk of the Town of Port Washington, died Friday in the Heritage Nursing Home in Port Washington where he had been a patient for one week. He was born in the Town of Port Washington on March 23, 1883, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Winkel and was married to Josephine Stiefvater in Manitowaoc. For many years , he had operated a feed mill and gladiolus farm on Highway 84 near Port Washington. He served as the town clerk for 35 years and was drainage board chairman for five years until retiring recently. Survivors include: his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Sharon) Nueller, and Mrs. Robert (Karen) Gierach, both of Port Washington; two sons; Allen Schlut, Milwaukee and Melvin Drassler, of Nevada; and nine grandchildren....Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery..."
