OBIT from Sheboygan Press Feb. 8, 1952: "Hilarius M. Winkel, 78, of 2422 N. 38th ST., Milwaukee, pioneer Ozaukee County teacher and one of the organizers of the Milwaukee Vocational School, died Wednesday afternoon at St. Joseph's hospital in Milwaukee. Mr. Winkel was born in Port Washington and at an early age taught school at Knellsville. Later he moved to Milwaukee where he was first associated with the Spencerian Business School, then Badger State Business College, and shortly before World War I, he and Prof. Robert Cooley of Waubeka organized the Milwaukee Vocational School. At that time they had four teachers and 200 pupils, and today the school has 480 teachers and an enrollment of 15,000 students. He taught at Milwaukee Vocational School about 29 years, retiring five years ago. He is survived by his wife, nee Theresa Smith, formerly of the town of Port Washington; and one son, Raymond, of Milwaukee; one brother, Nic. Winkel, of Knellsville; and two sisters, Miss Mayme Winkel and Mrs. Peter Biever, both of Port Washington. One brother Philip, preceded him in death a few years ago......Interment will be made at St. Marys Cemetery."
