Funeral services for Joseph Meharg, aged 57 years, were held Sunday afternoon at his home 228 Tuttle Street at two o'clock and at 2:30 at the First Congregational church with Rev Charles E Trueblood officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr Meharg's death occurred suddenly at East Tawas of heart disease Tuesday evening, November 13th and his body was taken to Alpena Wednesday for interment. Acting as pallbearers were the following friends and fellow employees of the Detroit & Mackinac Railroad Company: George Berry, William Bonker, John Mielke, George Dane, Hugh Leach of Alpena and Mark Ducharme of East Tawas.
Acting as honorary pall bearers were his six brothers: Nicholas and Charles Mehaarg of Yale, Michigan; Alfred Meharg of Pembine, Wisconsin; and Robert, John and Whitfield Meharg of Tillsonburg, Ontario.
Mr Meharg was conductor of a mixed freight train which had the run between East tawas and Bay City daily, which train he had charge of the past three years. He had been in the employ of the D&MRR company for 27 years, making a host of friends wherever he went. The services for Mr Meharg were largely attended, which together with the beautiful floral offerings, showed the high esteem in which he was always held by all who knew him/ Among the out of town relatives in attendance were the following who returned to their respective homes this morning: Mr & Mrs Robert Meharg and son Ivan, John Meharg, Whitfield Meharg, all of Tillsonburg, Ontario; Alfred Meharg of Pembine, Wisconsin; Nicholas and Charles Meharg of Yale, Michigan; his daughter Mrs Ray Simpson and Mr Simpson of Cheboygan; and Mrs Ellen Meharg of Detroit.
