William Meharg, one of the best known railroad men of this section, died at an early hour this morning at his home on Lake Street, following a stroke of apoplexy.
Mr Meharg has been in the employ of the D&M RR for the past 35 years, of which 31 were spent in Alpena. Until taken ill last week, he held a position as yard master. He was born in Glen Meyer, Ontario, 56 years ago.
Besides his sorrowing widow, seven children are left: Mayme of Washington DC; and Florence, Harry, Helen, William and Everett at home; eight brothers and two sisters also survive: Joseph of Alpena; Alfred of Pembine Wis; David of Windsor; John, Robert and Whitfield of Canada; Charles of Pontiac; Nicholas of Yale; Mrs George Whitesell of King Lake, Ont; and Mrs Cuthbert Hetherington of Glen Meyer.

Mr Meharg was a past worthy president of Alpena Aerie Eagles, and had been prominent in the affairs of that organization for a number of years. A man of sterling, upright character and unimpeachable integrety, he held the respect of the entire community. His death is a heavy blow to his family and his loss will be felt not only in his own home but throughout Alpena and this section of the state.

The funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the home and at 2 o'clock from the First Congregational Church, Rev M Burkholder officiating. The Eagles will attend the service as a body.Obituary, Alpena News, Mon 14 Apr 1919:
