BRIDGEWATER - A memorial service for Mattie Catherine Swigart, 77, will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Bridgewater Church of the Brethren.

Mrs, Swigart died Sunday [May 6, 1979] at Bridgewater Home, where she had lived several years. She had been ill since January.

She was born Nov. 20, 1901 at Dale Enterprise and was a daughter of the late R. Swope and Verdie Miller Showalter.

She lived in Parsons, Kan., Christiansburg and Manassas before moving to Bridgewater several years ago.

She attended Bridgewater College and Bethany Bible College in Chicago. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren.

Surviving are her husband, Paul E. Swigart; a daughter, Romelle Million of Alexandria; three sisters, Marie J. Showalter of Harrisonburg, Ruth E. Showalter of Hinton and Frances Showalter of Philadelphia; two brothers, Galen Showalter of Harrisonburg and Joseph Showalter of Port Republic, Md., and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Swigart left her body to science for medical research.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1221 N. Main St., Harrisonburg.
