Mrs. Marshall R. Clark
Mrs. Josphine E. Clark, widow of Marshall R. Clark, for more than 50 years a resident of 610 County St., died at Putnam Memorial Hospital Saturday. She was 73. She had made her home for the past year with her sister, Mrs. Miner Clark of East Arlington.
The daughter of Silas and Martha (Corey) Elwell, she was born in Shaftsbury Oct 6, 1898. Her education was in Bennington and she was a graduate of Bennington High School. She was married to Mr. Clark April 5, 1947. For several years she taught school and then helped Mr. Clark in the store. Mr. Clark died in 1958.
She was a member of the Gradatim Class of the First Baptist Church, an active member of that church and a member of the Red Mountain Chapter, Order Eastern Star, of Arlington.
Survivors besides her sister include her brother, Corwin Elwell of Bennington; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Richard Jolivette of Bennington; Miss Caroline Anne Clark of Franklin, Mass.; a foster sister, Mrs. Jennie Hewitt of Northfield, Mass.; nieces and nephews including Maurice Elwell, who resided with her on County Street for many years and now lives in Lincoln Center, Maine.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd I. La Bombard, pastor, officiating. The Rev. Mr. La Bombard also offered the committal prayers and burial was in the family plot in Park Lawn Cemetery this morning.
Bearers were Richard Jolivette, Corwin Elwell, Jr., Donald Elwell, Addison Clark, Gordon Clark and Raymond Clark.
Presiding at the organ for the service was Mrs. Rose Hall. Among those in attendance were members and officers of Red Mountain Chapter OES, a large delegation of the Gradatim Group of the First Baptist Church, members of the American Association of Retired Persons and members of her Bennington High School class.
Sunday night friends and relatives called at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home and members and officers of Red Mountain Chapter OES held their service.
