GLADYS ELWELL MOORE
Funeral Services for Young Woman Held Thursday Afternoon
Funeral services for Gladys Elwell Moore, wife of Warren H. Moore, were held from her home on Lyons street Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. W.G. Towart officiated assisted by Rev. Stanley Cummings. The bearers were her five brothers and a brother-in-law, Harry Bronson.
She was the daughter of Silas and Martha Corey Elwell and was born on November 15, 1893 in South Shaftsbury where the early part of her life was spent, coming to Bennington to live 12 years ago. In May 1927 she was married to Warren Moore of Bennington who, with a two weeks old daughter, Jeanette, survive her.
For a number of years Mrs. Moore was an employee of the E.Z. Waist Co., but for several years before her marriage she had been employed at the Bennington Wax Paper plant. She was a member of the local Baptist church and the Bennington Lodge of Rebekahs.
She was a young woman of a quiet, reserved nature, loyal hearted and ever ready to do a kindness; a loving wife and daughter and a friend that will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Her death comes as a great shock to her relatives and many friends who in spite of the fact that she had been critically ill were fully confident of her recovery. All that medicine and human hands could do proved of no avail and early Tuesday morning she passed to eternal rest.
She is also survived by her mother, Martha Elwell of County street, three sisters, Mrs. Lila Bronson of South Shaftsbury, Mrs. Alice Clark of East Arlington, Josephine of Bennington and a foster sister, Mrs. Jennie Hewitt of Farley, Mass. and five brothers, Clyde of South Shaftsbury, Raymond of East Arlington, Corwin, Fred and John of Bennington.
