Ernest Dale Ray Martin was born Feb. 17, 1920 in Curtin, WV to William Samuel Martin and Minnie B. Sparks Martin.
In June 1926 Dale and his sister Ora and brothers, Raymond and Arnold were placaed in the Davis Child Center.
Dale said he was adopted by John Smith and wife. This has not been confirmed.
Ernest Dale Martin, 79, of Eleanor died Aug. 25, 1998, in Putnam General Hospital, Hurricane, after a short illness.
He was a retired coal operator and a veteran of both the Army and Navy.
Surviving: daughter, Tonya Gale McCew of Martin, S.C., Tina Marie Franklin of New York, sons, Thomas L. and Timothy J. Martin, both of Coudersport, PA., Michael Todd Martin of Fort Campbell, KY., Terry Dale Martin of Georgia, Theodore Scott Martin of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ronald Dale Martin of California; caregivers, Gladys S. Beller and Mary Litton; 21 grandchildren; four great grandchildren. Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Raynes funeral Home, Buffalo. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Eleanor.
