Memorial services for Arnold J. Martin, 80, of Carrizozo, New Mexico, a former Albany resident, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, at Godfrey -Neese Funeral Home. Dr. Clifford Stewart of Abilene will officiate. A retired coin dealer, coin shop operator, and real estate agent, he died December 30, 1997, in the veterans hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He served in the U.S. Army and was at Pearl Habor at the time of the Japanese bombing attack December 11, 1941.Mr. Martin was born May 30, 1917,in Clarksburg, West Virginia, son of the late William and Minnie Sparks Martin.When he was seven, he and his brothers and sisters were placed in a children's home. At the age of 12, he ran away to Texas where he found a home with Theron and Louline Fincher and other families at Ft. Griffin, near Albany. He liked to travel and would pursue various business ventures, but seem to return to Albany as "home base". At one time, he operated a domino and pool parlor in Albany.

Arnold was actually born in Craigsville, Nicholas Co., WV and not as stated in the obit. I have a copy of certified birth certificate.
