Mary was the oldest child of Rudolph & Anna Longe Hamann. She was born and reared in the Metamora area of Franklin County, Indiana.

On November 7, 1877, she was married in Franklin County to John W. Dickey, the son of James & Clarissa (Rucker) Dickey.

They would move shortly after that to Rush County and lived there in Noble, Ind. through the 1900 Census. By 1910 Census, they were living in Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana.

The 1900 Census shows that this couple had one living child, but by the 1910 census, the child was deceased. Have not found any further record of this child.
