March 24, 1948 The Frederick Post JESSE I. RENNER DIES SUDDENLY AT NEW MIDWAY Was Pioneer Automobile Dealer; Had First Private Plane ACTIVE IN AFFAIRS OF FIRE COMPANIES Stricken with a heart attach as he finished his dinner about 5:30 o'clock Tuesday evening, former County Commissioner Jesse I Renner died immediately at his home in New Midway. He was 59 years of age and had been in his usual health Tuesday. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, meeting at the late residence at 1:30 o'clock with final rites in the Church of the Brethren, Rocky Ridge, of which he was a member, at 2 o'clock. Elders Elmer P. Schildt and Samuel R. Weybright will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at the late residence Thursday evening until time of the funeral. Powell and Hartzler, funeral directors, have charge of arrangements. Former County Commissioner He is survived by three brothers, David C., Rocky Ridge; Jason C., New Midwar, and Samuel M., Ladiesburg; a sister, Mrs. Emma McClain, New Midway; a half-brother, Newton D. Renner, New Midway, and several nieces and nephews. The former County Commissioner was a son of the late Francis C. and Amanda H. Harshman Renner. His father, who died in 1914 founded the Rose Jelly business at New Midway, where the son was born February 4, 1889. His mother was a native of the upper Middletown Valley, at Grossnicklle's church. Mr. Renner entered the Rose Jelly Manufacturing business with his father in 1906 and conducted a bicycle sales and repair business in conjunctin with his other duties. As the automboile became more widely used, he branched out into the garage business. In 1910 he became agent for sales of Reo cars. Served As Postmaster In 1912, he was appointed postmaster at New-Midway, serving in that capacity for several years. At the death of his father, December 15, 1914, Mr. Renner took over all the Renner businesses. In 1916, he became sub-agent for Ford sales and service and later acquired a full agency for Fords retaining the agency to date. Long active in Republican Party activies, Mr. Renner was an un-successful candidate for County Commissioner in 1930 and four years later was elected. He was defeated for re-election in 1938. Mr. Renner was also active in volunteer fire company organizations. He was president of the New Midway company since its organization in 1927 and for years has directed the popular carnivals sponsored by that organization. He was one of the ogranizers of the Frederick County Fireman's Association and has held several offices in that orgranization. Pioneer Flying Enthuist Interested early in aviation, Mr. Renner acquired a plane in 1929. He named the plane the Queen of Frederick County and for a time kept it at Rose Hill Manor. He later transferred it to his private airport at New Midway. The plane was destroyed by fire started by a welding torch and his plants to purchase a Ford V-8 powered plane were delayed by World War II. Mr. Renner had suffered for some time with diabetes and two years ago had to have several fingers amputated at the hospital here.
