Leon was the son of Emerson Dorance and Nellie Victoria (Chapman) Dunn. He was born a twin, the other being Leo Dwight, who died shortly after birth.

Leon graduated Arapaho Highschool and was a life-long carpenter. He was married to Hazel Marie Brooks on June 30, 1935 at Arapaho, Oklahoma. To this marriage were born five girls, Mona Marie, an infant who was stillborn, Victoria Mae, Karol Kaye and Margaret Ellen. After having lived in Arapaho for many years, the family moved in 1954 to Oregon, where they lived in several places while he worked first at the Pacific Adhesives Co. in Beaverton, the Job Corps Center in Astoria and finally as head carpenter for the Hillsboro School System.

Mr. Dunn's wife, Hazel, passed away Apr. 8, 1993 after a long illness. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Dunn moved back to Arapaho where he enjoyed living near his eldest daughter. He passed away following heart surgery. His funeral service was conducted by Charles Sappington at the First Baptist Church in Arapaho, where he was a member, and he was buried at the Stafford Cemetery in Custer County.

In addition to his wife, infant daughter and twin brother, he was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Mrs. Homer (Mable) Snider, Monette, MO; Mrs. Guy (Nellie) Stocks, Clinton, OK and Mrs. Harry (Viola) Goss, Woodward, OK.

Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. Donald Carpenter and husband, Arapaho, Mrs. Richard Gerg and husband, Kenniwick, WA, Mrs. Larry Lecuyer and husband, Beaverton, OR and Mrs. Jackie Thompson and husband, Palmer, AK; one sister: Mrs. Thurston Snider, Butler, OK, one brother, Walter and wife Wenona, Foss, OK, thirteen grandchildren and many cousins and other relatives.
